NEXT JAPANESE MOVE AMERICAN’S PREDICTION ASSAULT EXPECTED SOON Humming, March 5. General Magruder, chief of the United States military mission to Chungking, who arrived here by. air from Burma, told the United Press that he expects a Japanese attack against India soon, including a naval • attack against Calcutta. On the subject of Burma, General Magruder said that the position was 1 serious, but that if the British could use the vailable Chinese forces, the Burmese oilfields and airports might be saved. He added that the Japanese were ■ using only two divisions, but that their troops were specially trained jungle fighters, while the British Command and forces “were unprepar- > ed for the clever Japanese tactics.” U.S. MISSION TO INDIA ' REORGANISATION PLANNED Washington. March 5 A former Assistant Seci’etary of • State, Mr. Henry Grady, has been ap- • pointed head of the United States ’ war mission to India. The mission is leaving for New Delhi immediately after the I eorganisation of India’s war establishment which has already been announced. CHIANG BACK IN CHUNGKING ; CONFERRED WITH GEN. WAVELL London, March 5. Marsha] Chiang Kai-shek is back in > Chungking after nearly a month’s absence in Burma and India. It was revealed in Chungking to-night that he interrupted his return journey to make a special flight back to Lashio, in Burma, on Tuesday for a discussion with General Wavell. NEW COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF ; (Recd. 7.5 p.m.) Rugby, March 5. Air-Marshal Sir R. E. C. Pierse, who recently relinquished his appointment as air officer Commander-in-Chief.
