A Netherlands spokesman said in London to-day that the facts must be faced—the situation in Java is gloomy, and the Japanese at present hold the command of the sea in that area. It is announced in London that Admiral Helfrich, former commander of the naval forces in the Netherlands East Indies, has been entrusted with a special mission. A new commander of the naval forces has been appointed.
