FEWER NOXIOUS WEEDS

CONTROL ON RANGITIKEI COUNTY Because of the exceptionall.y wet seacson, the eradication of hemlock had been left till shearing and haymaking operations were linished reported Mr. J. Robinson, noxious weeds inspector for the northern portion of the Rangitikei County, at the council’s monthly meeting in Marton yesterday. “An inspection of various properties in the Koeke, Mataroa, Pohanui. Tiriraukawa, Mangaweka and Ohingai i districts had been made during the months,” Mr. Robinson added. “Very little ragwort was found in any of these districts, and even at Mataroa Mangaweka and Ohingaiti, where in past years odd patches were in evidence on most properties, only a few isolated plants were found. “So far this season, I have found less variegated thistle than in forme: years, though I have inspected most of the properties on which in past years farmers have informed me that thev have found odd patches. Now that the shearing season has finished I am interviewing owners regarding odd plants of sweet briar which were not cleared earlier in the season. This weed appears to be well under control and is confined to certain districts.”
