BUILDING ORGANISERS
SCHEME IN WANG AM I Tim appointment of building organisers is a matter which is being undertaken by the Wanganui tire-watching organisation at. the present time. The duties of building organisers will be to take charge of buildings in which there are several shops each organiser having charge of lhe kevs so that access may be had lo the shoos in the event, of an emergency. Mr. A. R. Donaldson, who has charge of the fire-watching scheme in Wanganui has been engaged in sorting tho enrolment cards of those who joined the fire-watching service under the compulsory regulations. These cards total SSO and include some who had previously voluntarily enrolled as fire-wmtehors. Volun’arv enrolments totalled 730, but the effective strength nf th r> organisation will not be known until tabulation of the cards of the compulsory enrolees is finished. Mr. Donaldson said yesterday tha’ a permanent watch on buildings would not be undertaken until an emergency came. However, it was hoped to hold a trial mobilisation of the organisation soon, nrobably when the alarm signals for Wanganui were finalised. Fire-watching block’ wardens and sub-wardens to take -hatgo of each street frontage have been appointed in the business area.
