During the period of nonconveyance by bus the High School nupils were under supervision of Mr. F. C. Charlton, who enrolled new Raetihi scholars for the High School at the Raetihi Primary School, where the pupils assembled in order to keep up their school work. RAETIHI WOMEN’S INSTITUTE At the annual meeting of the Raetihi Women’s Institute to-morow (Thursday), Mrs. Ida R. Ward will not be seeking re-election as president. She has forwarded the following letter to the “Chroncile” for publication: On the eve of my retirement from office, may I. through the columns of your newspaper, sa* ‘‘Thank you” to (he kind donors of fleece-wool, in response to our appeal in December last. I also wish to say that a most generous benefactor is making and giving to the Women's Institute six spinning wheels, and from the results of a cushion drive we have purchased another. The institute is forming a spinning circle, which anyone is welcome to join by becoming an institute member. The subscription is onlv 2s a year. We also thank and accept the' kind offer of Mrs. D. E. Gardiner to card wool, etc. Both these offers are invaluable, as we know that a sister institute, with 20 white fleeces and half a bale of black wool, has only one wheel, the assembly of more being hampered and delayed through enemy action. Again thanking all donors of the fleeces, and trusting that others as well as they will give next season either black or white fleeces, when spinning and knitting wil be done as part of the women’s war effort to defeat our notorious e n e m y. „ _
