A CENSORSHIP
IMPOSED IN UNITED STATES Washington. Dec. 17. At u Press conference, President Roosevelt has announced the establishment of a censorship granting full powers. Mr. Byron Price, executive editor of the Associated Press, will be Director of Censorship, which will be in part voluntary and in part mandatory. It will apply to the Press, radio, cablegrams, mails, and other mediums of information. Mr. Roosevelt explained that while all Americans abhor censorship just as the.x abhor war, experience has demonstrated some degree of censorship is essential in wartime. “The important, thing now is that the censorship should be administered effectively and in harmony with the best interests of our free institutions," he said.
