D.F.C. WINNER MISSING

HERO OF MEDITERRANEAN ATTACK BOMBING OF SHIPPING (Prss Assn.) Wellington, Dec. 18 Hero of an attack on shipping east of Tripoli last month, Acting FlightLieutenant Everest George Edmunds, D.F.C., is reported missing. He is a son of Mr. E. Edmunds, Wellington. He won the D.F.C. for the operation, being pilot of the plane which carried it out. In spite of unfavourable conditions he persisted in his mission and scored hits on a large vessel and its escorting destroyer. Two days later he led a low-flying at tack on shipping in Navarini Bay. In spite of intense fire from the shore several hits were scored on a 6000iton tanker which was set on fire. | The skill and determination shown iby Acting Flight-Lieutenant Edmunds. combined with the skilful and accurate navigation of his observer, were largely responsible for the success achieved. Other air casualties reported are: Leading - Aircraftman Alexander Collard Willis, killed in a flying accident. His father is Mr. S. C. Willis, Thames. Sergeant Timothy Rowley Murphy. previously reported missing, now reclassified as missing and believed killed in action. His mother is Mrs. J. R. Murphy, Kotemaori, Hawke's Bay. presiding over a very large attendance of members. Trustee P.C.R. Bro. A. Way gave an interesting report of the securities of the Court. The interest had always been paid on due dates. He stated that the Court had been fortunate In its investments and never once had any interest been lost. A letter from the Director of Health re refund of members’ payments for medical services since May 1 was fully discussed and it was decided to make application for same. Members present signed the forms given them. Every member will have one posted, which he must return to the secretary before the end of December. 1941. Members spoke of the increasing work put on to lodge secretaries by the Social Security Department and not contributing toward the payment i of same. Christmas greetings are to be senl : to members serving in the forces. The secretary stated that 14 members are serving in New Zealand and overseas. | Court meetings for 1942 are to be j held on the fourth Tuesday of each month and are to open at 7.30 p.m. After lodge closes a social evening will be held. It is hoped to get better attendances of members. As contributions have been reduced, members are asked to try to Induce others to join. A hearty welcome was given to Bro. Darrow former treasurer of Court Roderick Dhu. Wanganui. Bro. Darrow briefly replied and thanked the Court for the welcome extended to him. Members present discussed various aspects of the Social Security Act and lodge matters in general. Members congratulated the trustees, secretary and treasurer on the state of the finances of the Court. Treasurer H. C. Gronn, P.C.R.. and Trustee A. Way. P.C.R.. responded. After lodge closed a very nice supper was partaken of.
