During the year the Women’s War j Service Auxiliary organised classes; and trained members to obtain St. John Ambulance certificates, while a | total of 860 persons received instruc-1 tion and 792 association awards were ' made, the report continued. These awards were: First-aid (junior). 237:’ first-aid (adult). 429; home nursing (junior). 32; home nursing (adult). 21; and hygiene. 73.

Ranks Depleted

The senior men’s division was greatly depleted during the year by members joining tlie armed forces. Three new cadet divisions were formed. The scheme whereby women holding certificates in first-aid, home nursing and hygiene qualify as aids by doing 60 hours' training in a public hospital had been availed of largely throughout the Wanganui area.
