WANGANUI CENTRES ANNUAL MEETING YEAR OF BUSY ACTIVITY It was reported at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Centre of the j St. John Ambulance Association held ■ this week that forty-six classes were , examined during the year and a fur-: ther 20 classes which were under- j going tuition at September 30 had I since held their examinations. This large increase in candidates was considered to be because of the war. J. | Rogers. M.L.C.. and there was a good ■ attendance of members. During the year the Women’s War j Service Auxiliary organised classes; and trained members to obtain St. John Ambulance certificates, while a | total of 860 persons received instruc-1 tion and 792 association awards were ' made, the report continued. These awards were: First-aid (junior). 237:’ first-aid (adult). 429; home nursing (junior). 32; home nursing (adult). 21; and hygiene. 73.
Ranks Depleted
The senior men’s division was greatly depleted during the year by members joining tlie armed forces. Three new cadet divisions were formed. The scheme whereby women holding certificates in first-aid, home nursing and hygiene qualify as aids by doing 60 hours' training in a public hospital had been availed of largely throughout the Wanganui area.
