CHRISTMAS GREETINGS TELEGRAMS
CURTAILMENT NECESSARY (Press Assn.) Wellington, Dec. 16 “It is now too late to guarantee the delivery by Christmas of greetings telegrams to places overseas.” stated the Postmaster-General (the Hon. P. C. Webb) to-day. '•While the response of the public to previous announcements on the subject has been particularly gratifying” said the Minister, ‘there is still a fairly steady lodgment of greetings i traffic and the overseas cables are now heavily congested. Further Christmas cablegrams can he accepted only on the understanding that delivery max not he possible until the New In regard to greetings telegrams for places within New Zealand, the Minister pointed out that the acutshortage of staff in the post office has recently been accentuated by the release of further officers for the armed services, and it will therefore be necessary for the public to lodge their inland greetings telegrams not later than Monday next to ensure delivery by Christmas Day.
