SOLDIER’S WIDOW MAY BE MP.
MID-CANTERBURY SEAT MRS. A. N. GRIGG HAS AGREED TO BE A < AXDIDATE (Press Assn.) Christchurch. Dec. 16. In response to a widespread desire on the part of all branches of the National Party. Mrs. Arthur Grigg, widow of Major A. N. Grigg, M.P.. who was killed in action in Libya has consented to allow her name to go forward for selection as the official National Party candidate for the MidCanterbury by-election. Making this announcement. Mr. T. N. Gibbs, deputy-chairman of the Canterbury division of the National Party, said there had been a universal call from all parts of Mid-Canterbury electorate that Mrs. Grigg should he nominated. These representations had been dulv made to Mrs. Grigg, who was assured that the request Is hacked bv keen enthusiasm from the entire electorate. Mrs. Grigg has now consented tn submit her name to a selection ballot, should one be necesMr. Gibbs explained that the desire that Mrs. Grigg should he the candidate was so general that he did not anticipate there would he any other nomination received and as the Labour Party has announced its decision not to contest the by-election it is unlikely that there will be a contest. Mrs. Grigg would then he elected unopposed.
