RAIN IN CANTERBURY
VALUABLE TO WHEAT CROPS (Press Assn) Christc’ h. Dec. 16. Rain that set in late on Monday night and this morning over most of the province and continued steadily throughout to-day will be of incalculable value to farm The rain in no part appears to have been heavy but it was warm and steady and continuous, and every drop was absorbed by the more or less parched soil. On the lighter land it will revive the wheat crop, which in some districts, however, may be past that stage, but on medium and heavy bind it will completely restore the craps which, although looking well, were commenting to ripen prematurely under lhe heal \-h culminated the sweltering conditions of Monday. Rain should ensure these er- yielding quite up to normal and the improvement of others that were on the borderline.
