SOLDIERS’ REALISATION London, Dec. 15. An Italian radio operator in Libya transmitted a message to his own troops urging them to lay down ttneir arms after two British staff officers from Tobruk, armed only with pistols, had captured his group. The Britishers surprised 15 Italians around a radio set in a wadi. One Britisher wrote out a message and gave it to the operator, who remarked: “Shall I send this? It would be a good idea.” He sent the message, with apparent satisfaction. The Italians surrendered promptly, although guns and machine-guns were nearby. One said: “We realise that Italy is a loser in this war. hut what are we to do? The Germans have a stranglehold on our Government.”
