Work was delayed by ram. but an early start : was made and workmen continued throughout the afternoon. M x-t progress was made in St. Hili - Street, where trenches were dug on ‘ the Ridgway Street side of the new I • onv ♦ nience.'*. These trenches are I deep and wide enough to provide seating acommodation and are being ! protected by earth and >andbags. The walls are being lined with timber. The decision to proceed immediate- * ly with the construction of shelter j trenches within close proximity of the main business area was made by . the City Council at a special met ting ! «»n Monday afternoon, following a j conference with the Wanganui .
