ACTIVITY IN WANGANUI KEIO.MMEXDATIOXS ADOPTED Further recommendations made by the recently-constituted Tourist, Publicity and Development Committee were adopted by the Wanganui City Council at the monthly meeting on Tuesday night. Reports covering the activities of the committee and its sub-committee were presented to the council. The recommendations included the following: "That a number of dodgers setting out information of value to visitors to the city be printed and distributed to the local hotels, both licensed and private. “That there be convened with the object of discussing the question of promoting a carnival for Anniversary Day next, a conference of representatives of local sports bodies and the committee. "That a quantity of transfers for windows of business premises, etc., and stickers for envelopes be placed on order and sold at prices to be decided on. any profits from such sales to accrue to the funds of the committee. Information is being sought regarding all undeveloped lands on the right hank of the Wanganui River which would ho suitable for industrial purposes. Difficulties experienced in shipping goods from th Port of Wanganui to

the West Coast of the South Island were also dealt with. The committee reported that it would he desirable to obtain the co-operation of interested local firms in order to arrange bimonthly shipments if possible. A number of suggested attractions for school children in the form of organised trips up the Wanganui River to the bush areas was placed before the committee by Mr. Gregor McGregor. The committee reporteG that this matter would be kept in view. The suggestion that a "Wissung Week" should he held in Wanganui was also considered, the committee submitting following report:— "Earnest consideration has beer, given by the committee to a scheme outlined in detail by Miss E. N. Sampson, whereby, under the auspices of the committee, an annual festival devoted to art appreciation and culture bp held in the city for a period of one week. The committee is entirely favourable to the suggestion and recommends that Miss Sampson bp thanked for her evidence of cooperation in this connection; also that she solicit the support of women’s organisations with a view to the formation of a committee which would assist her in the further development of the proposals.
