BISHOP GERARD MISSING
SENIOR CHAPLAIN IN N.Z.E.F. SERVED IN GREAT WAR. (Press Assn.) Wellington. Dec. 10. The Bishop of Waiapu. Rt. Rev. G. V. Gerard. M.C. senior chaplain with the Second N.Z.E.F.. is reported missing in a casualty list to-day. Born in Christchurch in 1898. Bishop Gerard was educated at Christ’s College. Christchurch, and Oxford. In Christchurch he was prominent at rowing, athletics, and Rugby football. During the Great War he was a lieutenant in the Buffs. He was curate of St. Mary's. Timaru 1923-26*. St. Saviour's. Croydon <1927-28* and St. Margaret's Barking (1929). Returning to New Zealand he was vicar of St. Peter's. Pahiatua 11929-32). St. Augustine's. Petone (1932-36*. and St. Matthews. Auckland (1936-38*. being appointed Bishop of Waiapu in 1938.
