Hakaraia Tawera, 24. ! single, was convicted and fined £25 (costs £1 12s) by Mr. J. H. Salmon. S.M., in the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court yesterday. I Senior-Sergeant F. Culloty. who conducted the prosecution, said that at 9.40 p.m. on Saturday. Inspector P. Rouse saw Tawera driving across the Wangaehu Bridge, and from the way accused was riding the motor-cycle he suspected he was under the influence of liquor. Later jje saw accused fall off the motor-cycle. When the inspector interviewed Tawera Im admitted having one beer too many. Accused had previously been convicted ( and fined £2O. Mr. A. A. Barton who appeared for the accused, said that Tawera was willing to take out a prohibition order. "This is your second offence." said the magistrate, "and. as you know, these cases are dealt with seriously , and imprisonment is frequently im- > posed. Because of your previous good character and your industriousness I you will he lined £25 and your licence suspended (or two years."
