MR. JORDANS VISIT TO EGYPT
POPULARLY RECEIVED PRESENT at opening of pie FACTORY (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service.) Cairo, Nov. 29. “Commander” Jordan can now talk in the Empire councils with confidence of his first-hand knowledge of the conditions in the Middle East. The High Commissioner s visit to the New Zealanders in Egypt has been appreciated by all ranks. He has shown an understanding which ■en m< ■: encouraging, in the forward areana, base depots, hospitals, convalescent camps, hospital ships and naval depots he has met and spoken to noth officers and men, and always endeavoured to get their points of view. The visit has been popular and mSde a good impression.
Mr. Jordan was essentially interested in people. His interviews with prominent Egyptian personalities gave h.m much satisfaction and pleasure. He was particularly impressed by a iesire expressed in high quarters for improvement of the social conditions and the standard oi education in Egypt. I-ast Saturday he attended the opening of a pie factory at a New Zealand < amp. Hp had a particular interest in th;s factory for the mas.* production o( pies, because he. wiln General B. C. Frey berg. V.C., negotiated for the purchase of the machinery in England. It was tilting that thp factory should b opened by Mrs. Freybetg. who is i.oing such tine work in the New Zealand Forces Chib in Cairo. Every Sunday morning while in Egypt, Mr. Jordan attended divine service and once lead the lessons to the troops at a service in the camp. Sunday Mr. Jordan attended a special service in Cairo. On the eve of Ins departure he thanked the people of Egypt foi lhr kindness shown him and hoped New Zealand would be given an opportunity of reciprocating after the war.
