HUNTERVILLE NOTES

HOME GUARD The members of the Hunterville Home Guard (A Company), together with the traffic unit, signallers, and the W.W.S.A., are turning out for the general try-out next Sunday. A large parade ig requested for next Thursday night at 8 o'clock, so that final instructions can be given members as to what is going to take place on the Sunday. W.W.S.A. At the last parade of the W.W.S.A., Captain A. Abel, who has generously given of his time to put the members through their drill and formations, announced the officers and n.c.o.’s, who are as follows:—Company commander, Mrs. Raine; No. 1 Platoon commander, Mrs. McNabb; No. 2 Platoon commander, Miss A. Meads; ser-geant-major. Miss Jean Gordon; ord-erly-sergeant, Miss Fay Jones; sergeant, No. 1 Platoon, Mrs. Towers; sergeant, No. 2 Platoon, Miss McKay. A committee meeting of the Hunterville W.W.S.A. was held in the Town Hall last week when Mrs. R. A. Gordon presided over Mesdames Dukeson, Coleman, McAlley, and McNabb. An apology was received from Sister Watson. Mrs. G. W. Coleman was elected secretary. It -was decided to enquire for more W.W.S.A. badges, and also about uniforms. Mrs. McNabb reported that the cycling corps classes were almost completed, the girls had been very keen and had quickly learnt the workings of a bicycle. Transport classes were now' making good progress, and military parades were well attended HOCKEY CLUB DANCE A reminder is given about the Hockey Club dance to be held in the Town "Hall, Hunterville, to-morrow (Wednesday). This is the hockey girls’ effort for the soldiers’ parcel fund. These dances are always very popular, and this time being fancydress, a large crowd is anticipated. The Midnight Revellers’ Orchestra will supply the music.
