SALE OF OPOSSUM SKINS

N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited (Incorporated in England) offered a large catalogue of opossum skins at the sale in Dunedin on September 19 to a full bench of buyers. Competition was keen and, as was the case last year, red necks and red browns were in demand, while greys and blues realised comparatively better prices than they did last year. Compared with closing rates of last year we quote the market firmer as follows, the greatest appreciation being in the best grades of blues and greys: Blacks, browns, red necks and rustles 2s to 3s 9d higher; greys and blues. 2s to 5s 6d higher; medium and smalls can be quoted on the average Is to Is 6d per skin firmer. The top price realised in our catalogue was 13s 6d per skin for a line of super blues. Of the consignment sold on account of Wanganui trappers, the top price was 12s 4d. The average price for the Wanganui district shows a rise of 2s 6d to 3s 6d per skin over last season's prices.
