WAITOTARA NOTES
ALL PURPOSES PATRIOTIC COMMIT! EE STATEMENT OF RECEIPTS At a meeting of the Waitotara All Purposes Patriotic Committee there was a large attendance of members, presided over by Mr. I. D. Blackie. Prior to commencing business, the chairman referred to the sad lo.s, suffered by the committee in the death of one of its valued members, I Mr. A. H. Parkinson, a highly respect-1 ed citizen who was always ready to I lend a hand to any worthy object in the district. The members stood in silence in tribute to his memory. The statement of receipts presented in connection with the Patriotic Princess competition disclosed that the sum of £2901 12s had been raised, and of that sum £2256 18s 9d was received by donations from the public, the cost of collection being nil. Mr. Blackie. commenting on the result, expressed his appreciation of the splendid team work shown by members of the local committee and also ,of the Upper Waitotara sub-commit-Itee, the results from which were most I gratifying. He paid a special tribute Ito princess "Pat” Pearce and her 'parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Pearce. Nation?! D. Blackie (chairman), A. A. Verry, |j. J. Armstrong, S. B. Wilson, and F. J. Hopkinson. | It was decided to make an intensive drive of the district during the coming week, with the object of substantially raising the percentage of I national savers in Waitotara, which is at present 41.
