ORANGE SHORTAGE FORESEEN

ISLAND SEASON FINISHED (Press Assn.) Wellington. Sept. 26. The Government anticipates some difficulty in securing adequate supplies of oranges for the local market during the next few weeks said the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. J. G. Barclay, in a statement to-day. The season for Island oranges was now over, he said, and the New Zealand market would be entirely dependent on Australian supplies. Difficulties arose in this connection with regard to shipping and the restriction of unloading points in the Dominion necessitated the transfer of fruit over long distances. Further, the Jamaican market had been eliminated due Io th" war. However, the Internal Marketing Department would endeavour as far as was humanly possibje Io ensure that all available supplies were spread as equitably ns possible throughout the Dominion.
