TAIHAPE HOSPITAL LOAN

VALIDATING ACTION LOCAL LEGISLATION BILL BEFORE THE HOUSE The Local Legislation Bill, which was introduced in the House of Representatives yesterday, includes a provision which seeks to validate the action of the Wanganui Hospital Board in regard to a loan of £BOOO raised to alter and improve the Taihape Hospital. Because of the Waiouru Military Camp, the work at the hospital became a pressing matter and the hoard could not. do it out of ordinary revenue. A special loan had to be raised, but so urgent was the work that a start had to be made immediately. This meant that the board had to finance the start of the work cut of its ordinary funds, the understanding being that whatever amount was expended in this way it would be repaid when the loan was raised. After negotiation, the Health Department and the board came to an agreement on these lines. Prior to the gazetting of the authority to raise a loan, the board spent more than £9OO out of its general account. The Bill, when passed, will validate that action.
