JAMES McGREGOR PARK
VESTING OF THE LAND BILL SEEKS TO GIVE CITY COUNCIL JURISDICTION Transfer of James McGregor Park, an area of land along the Wanganui East Esplanade, to the jurisdiction of the Wanganui City Council, will be brought about when the Local Legislation Bill, now before the House of Representatives, is passed. At present the land I- vested in the Wanganui Harbour Board, but is leased to Mr. Hope Gibbons, under conditions which require that it be made use of as a park or recreation ground. Mr. Gibbons is a trustee of the James McGregor Park Board. That board is unable to proceed further with the development of the wark and there is a common desire on the part of the trust board, the Harbour Board and the council to vcs. the area in the City Council, for the purpose of maintaining it: as a park or as an area for recreation.
