BULLS NEWS
SALE OF WORK . As advertised, a sale of work, under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church. Bulls, will be held in the Town Hall supper room on Monday afternoon. Fancy, produce, cake, sweet and other stalls will be provided. as well as competitions for fancywork, cooking and flowers. The doors will open at 1 p.m. and admission to the hall is free. BULLS HOME GUARD The really tine day on September 21 enabled the Bulls unit of the Home Guard to carry out hana grenade throwing and shooting practices under ideal conditions. The parade of 60 men just allowed time for the exercises to be completed so that country members could get away in time to" attend their usual Sunday afternoon duties.
The grenade throwing clearly showed that practice has definitely brought about a decided improvement in this work. Some of the platoons were handicapped in the competition by the inclusion of men who have not had the opportunity of trying their skill previously. No. 1 Platoon proved to be the winners, closely followed by No. 2 Platoon.
* In the shooting at 25 yards range results were, on the whole, very satisfactory. Strange rifles, some of which had ways of working which took a little understanding, especially in the ten-shot rapid exercises, can be said to be responsible for some of the results obtained. However, all hands made the best of whatever kind of rifle was allotted to them. The best score was made by Sergeant Abraham, closely followed by Lieutenant Mitchell one point behind. F. Illing came next, with Lieutenant Taverner and R. White a point behind him. Sergeant Dalrymple and Corporal Huddleston followed, each separated by a point only.
