GIRL GUIDES HONOUR MEMORY OF LATE CAPTAIN E. GRAY. (0.C.) Taihape, Aug. 30 The Taihape Girl Guides planted an 1 oak tree in the grounds of the Taihape District High School on Thursday afternoon as a memorial to the ■ late Captain Evelyn Gray. The plant- : ing and dedication of the tree was performed by Mis. R. J. Gibbs, presi- 1 dent of the Girl Guides Association and Capt. M. Little. In reading the dedication service Capt. Little said: —“We dedicate this tree to the late Captain Evelyn Gray, who brought her best into the service and gave us a new vision of our work for our chief. Her example has taught us to understand the little children in our care and show them how to make life beautiful and helpful. May this oak grow to be a living ■ example of her British loyalty ol spirit and ever remind us of the beauty and wonder that God has given us in the world, and the loveliness of Jesus Christ.” ' HOME GUARD PARADE. The Home Guard will parade outside the Oval Domain gates at 2.15 p.m. on September 7, which is a day of national prayer. A service will be held in the Town Hall at 2.45 p.m., , conducted by the chaplain, Rev. W. M Smallfield. Other units besides the Home Guard may parade. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE SOCIAL AND DANCE. The Railway Hall was the scene of gaiety on Thursday evening, when an , enjoyable social and dance was held under the auspices of the St. John . Ambulance Brigade. Mr. W. H. Gib- , son acted as M.C. The music was . provided by Mr. D. George, extras be- , ing played by Miss V. Montgomery and Mr. Steedman. The supper was , on a lavish scale. It is hoped to hold , similar functions at regular intervals.
