NOT ENCOURAGED

ROMANCE IN THE ARMY Romance in the Army, especially among nurses, is not encouraged during wartime, according to military authorities at Victoria Barracks, states an Australian exchange. Asked whether instructors had recently been issued that A.I.F. nurses who have married since joining have been required to give an undertaking that they will stay at least six months in the service, a military spokesman said that was not the position, but nurses were bound by other regulations regarding marriage. These, he said, provided that a nurse, on joining the service, must make a declaration that she has no intention o£ marrying within 12 months. It she does marry within that period, she is required to refund onetwelfth of the kit allowance, made to her on appointment, for every month of the twelve that she fails to serve because of marriage.
