OPERA HOUSE

“SLEEPERS WEST" Heal as one's own personal prob- ■ lems is “Sleepers West,” commencI ing to-day at the Opera House, a I moving drama of a pair of refugees: Charles Coburn, an escaped Viennese surgeon, and Sigrid Gurie, his daughter. They arrive in a small dust-bowl town to face the many hardships caused by the great dust storms and the illness prevalent in the community. The popular English comedienne, Gracie Fields is excellently cast in “Keep Smiling,” which is to enjoy a short return season. Other leading players in the film are Roger Livesey, Peter Coke and the Australian actress Mary Maguire. There is a feast ol music in this refreshingly happy film tonic. Gracie Fields sings, as only she can, a wide variety of numbers from “The Holy City," sung in a village church, to the riotous comedy number. “Mrs. Binns’ Twins,” which she sings in a concert party sequence.
