SOCIAL AFTERNOON The Presbyterian Ladies' Guild at HunterviUe held a most successful social afternoon in the Presbyterian Hall on Saturday. Various competitions were held, the winders being:—Sponge Roll: Miss N. Griffin 1, Miss Lambert 2. Rock Cake: Mrs. S. McAlley 1, Mrs. J. Abel 2. April: Miss C. Meads 1, Miss E. McDonald 2. Mittens: Miss Z. Meads 1, Miss C. Meads 2. Bowl of Flowers: Miss E. McDonald 1, Miss Meads 2. Poppies: Heather Lambert 1, Barbara Brown 2, Gwen Fairbrother 3. A guessing competition was won by Mrs. Leask. During the afternoon solos were sung by Miss June McNabb, Mrs. L. Brown, and Gwen Fairbrother, and were much appreciated. PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE MEETS A discussion regarding reports that soldiers serving overseas had not received gift parcels took pf.ee at a meeting of the HunterviUe and District Patriotic Committee on Saturday night. It was decided that a letter be written to headquarters requesting particulars as to the forwarding of parcels. The meeting was presided over by Mr. R. A. Gordon and there were also present Messrs. R. Dukeson, R. G. Dalziell, G. Simpson. A. Henwood, L. Bull, J. Dickie, D. Cameron, R. M. S. Jones, E. Pickford, C. McManaway, and V. Toulman. Apologies were received from Messrs. D. Morris and D. iD. Simpson. It was stated that the next parcels are to be made up in September.
