SHANGHAI NEWSPAPER BUILDING
DAMAGED BY INCENDIARY BOMB WANG ( HING WEI'S OFFICIAL ORGAN (Reed. 7.40 p.m.) New York, Aug. 9. The Shanghai correspondent of the United Press of America says a huge incendiary bomb to-day set fire to a live-floor building housing Wang Ching-Wei’s Nanking official organ, the Central China Daily News. The bombing coincided with the anniversary of the outbreak of fighting between Japanese and Chinese troops in the Shanghai area in 1937. and occurred while Shanghai was filled with troops patrolling to prevent anniversary outbreaks. All the available fire-fighting apparatus wis summoned, but flames swept through the building. Fire gutted the building and destroyed paper stocks and the printing part of the plant. Consequently, publication is suspended temporarily. A preliminary investigation showed that the bombs were sc' ih tne bt’ddirg. The printing foreman and circulation manager were injured.— U.P.A.
