Girls’ Hockey Teams Entertained. The Mastertoil High School girls' hockey team visited Wanganui to play against a Girls' College team on triday, the latter winning by 3 goals to 2. In the evening members of the visiting team, with their hostesses, and girls of the college team, were entertained by Mis. D, G. O’Toole at an enjoyable party at her home in College Street. W.C.T.V. Wanganui Central Branch. At the monthly meeting of the Wanganui Central branch of the W.C.j'.U., Mrs. It. Wilson presided over a good attendance of members and visitors. Following the devotions a temperance fact was given. Members stood m silence as a mark of respect for the late Mrs. Bassett, also lor the late Miss parsons. Th" Measurer, the Band of Hope, and the Maori superintendents presented satisfactory reports. Mrs. Grinsteau w-s elected to till the vacancy of Ci.t.ii Roll superintendent, also to represent the union in the Plunket .society street collection, to be held Hus month. Mrs. Phizacklea gave a very line paper entitled -■Temperance Throughout the Ages," for which she received thanks and hearty applause. A new member was initialed. Afternoon tea was served. The meeting closed with prayer. The bring-and-buy stall was well patronised. Coming-of-age Party. Fairy lights and pttnga ferns made a spectacular scene in the Gonville Hall on August 2, when about 80 guests gathered to celebrate the occasion of the coming-of-age of Patricia, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. Holmes. The guest of honour was attired in a graceful frock of white broche with a shoulder spray of pink rosebuds and maidenhair fern. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mr. Syd Hood's Dance Band, and Mr. Brian Potts played the extras on his piano-accordion. Mr. Ross Robbins interspersed the dancing with items ana conjuring tricks. Supper was served m the adjoining hall, where tables were tastefully decorated with pink cyclamen, stocks, and mauve irises. The birthday cake was iced as a gift by Mrs, Batt. A unique golden yale key was presented by Mr. and Mrs. Clare. The usual toasts were honoured, including one for the soldiers overseas. Mr. P.
