DEATH OF WOODLEY PROWSE

WELL-KNOWN DENTIST SERVED IN GREAT WAR | A resident of Wanganui for 42 years, Mr. Woodley Armstrong IlTowsc, well-known dentist, died on I Saturday at his residence, koromiko i Road, Gonville, in his 6Stn year. Mr. IlTowsc had been ill for several weeks. Born in Wellington, Mi. Prowse at first was a student at St. John’s College, Auckland, but for:ekcu the ministiy i>r dentistry, practising at Wellington, Auckland and Dunedin oefore coming to Wanganui in 1899In Dunedin he married Miss Ada Thomas, daughter of the Rev. JThomas, of the Wesleyan Church. He is survived by his widow anu two sons, Mr. Kenneth Prowse, now serving with the Dental Corps, 2nd N.Z.E.F., in the Middle East, and Mr. Leigh [prowse, who trained with the Australian forces and is now with the 2nd 1A.1.F. in Palestine. Mr. Prowse served for two and ahalf years with tlie N.Z.E.F. during the Great War. and in his absence the dental practice was carried on by Mrs. Prowse, who, in addition, opened a branch at Wavcrh y. A keen angler, Mr. Prowse was a well-known figure at all Taupo fishing centres, and as a raconteur of stories of trout-fishing he had few equals. Some of his exi?ioits have been »he subject of the artist’s brush, and these pictures are treasured by his friends. He was also an enthusiast with the gun and for many .vears was a member of the Wanganui Acclimatisation Society. As a boy he had a fine sorpano voice and sang in the choir of St. Peter's Church. Wellington. Later, he was a member of the Wanganui Liedoriafel, the forerunner of the Male Choir, and he trained more than one male quartet. An enthusiastic builder of model yachts, in which hobby he worked with meticulous care and took pains with infinite detail, he gave several of these models as prizes in raffics for charitable objects. On one occasion one model vacht was the means of raising £7O for the Swankers’ Club. Ho had just i completed his last model prior to his final illness. Mr. Prowse won many prizes in the Model Yacht Club. The funeral will leave his residence this morning for tho Aramoho Cemetery.
