STORTFORD LODGE Hastings, Aug. 6. A good, advance was made on late high rates for hoggets at Stortford Lodge to-day, when buying was the dearest of I he season. The yarding included the lirst of the season’s ewes with lambs, which ranged from IGs Gd Io 13s 9d, all counted. On a basis of quaility breeding ewes made dearer buying. Most of the in-lamb ewes wore aged. Sheep were below .standard. Low-set two-tooth ewes made* from 30s 3d to 31s; six-year, faulty* mouthed, 21s 3d; aged and carrying very little wool, from 14s 2d to 14s Id; young mixed aged, 25s 6d; extra forward woolly wether hoggets made 23s 1 lOd; forward, from 19s Id to 21s Id; I shorn as lambs, from IGs to 17s Id; I jextra good woolly ewe hoggets, 30s .”><l | ! to 31s; shorn as lambs, from 24s 5d To i ]27s 3d. Exceptionally good quality females wore a feature in the beef offering. Several pens would bo unbeatable in New Zealand tor finish and quality. Two outstanding drafts of heavy cattle wore on account of Mr. W. A. Bell, Ben Lomond, and Mr. Jas. Lyons. Mr. Bell's A.A. cows ranged from £ll 13s 6d to £9 Ils, making a high average of £lll 8s 2d. Mr. Jas Lyons' extra hoary cows made from £lO 18s (id to £l2 13 s 6d. quality heifers made from £ll ISs 6d to £lO, and heavy steers til 6s. the draft averaging £ll 13s A draft of medium weight A.A heifers, well suited to first-class t ide. averaged £9 Ils. In other pens light cows made £7 8s 6d. The market thioughout showed a good advance on last week's rates.
