TAIHAPE’S SPLENDID ACHIEVEMENT
T'AIHAPE is to be congratulated upon its splendid achievement in raising more than three times its quota of £4OOO for patriotic purposes. The work involved must have been considerable, but the response has certainly justified the. effort. This achievement reveals what can be done by small communities when they set themselves seriously to accomplish a task. More money will be required for the maintenance of the Patriotic Fund, and it is to be hoped that, the organisation which has already been so successful in Taihape will be hi pt intact for further employment. Besides the work of organising, however, there must be the. spirit of giving. This is the basic cause of the £12,300 having been collected. People living in New Zealand in comfort find much satisfaction in giving generously to the maintenance of a measure of comfort to the men who are roughing it on active service. If. is probable that some further activities will have, to be undertaken with a view to countering the monotony of earn]) lite in Egypt by the provision of healthy and varied entertainment.
