BRITISH NAVAL LOSSES
TWO CRUISERS AND FOUR DESTROYERS OPEN TO DIVE-BOMBING ATTACKS London, May 27. The Admiralty announces the loss of two cruisers, Gloucester and Fiji, and four destroyers, in the actions round Crete. Most of the crews are safe. It is pointed out that British naval craft were exposed to intense air attacks and had little air support of their own. H M.S. Gloucester was a cruiser of 9400 tons. She carried 12 6in. and 8 4in. guns. H.M.S. Fiji, completed since, the war began, was of 8000 tons and carried 12 6in. and 8 4in. guns.
