CHARRED REMAINS FOUND

UNIDENTIFIED MAN Christchurch. May 13. Why a man should, for three years, preserve a pass-out check from a Christchurch theatre is one of the questions being considered by the identity of the man woo died in the scrub near Bottle Lake at least two vears ago. A fire that recently swept through the gorse and broom on the sandhills near Bottle Lake disclosed the remains, which were found by Eric Horace Mugford, on a shooting expedition. Although charred by the fire, some clothing was still wrapped round the bones. The skeleton was clad in a navy blue suit and tan shoes. Of the four coins in the pockets the latest bore the date of 1938, and, as coins rarely get into cirrjltitim unt.l a year after thev are minted, the man was probably alive in 1939. Yet, in a tin containing decomposed tobacco, the police found a pass-out ch-: from a Christchurch theatre bearing on the back an advertisement published in 1935. The skeleton showed no signs of injury. It has been submitted to Lt. A. B. Pearson, pathologist at the Christchurch Public for examination. while the police are st’ll seeking some clue io the identity of the dead
