Cr. J. Siddells, who is retiring front public life after 12 years on the Wanganui City Council, and eight years as chairman of the Library Committee, was entertained and farewelled by the Alexander Library staff yesterday.

Lieutenant-Colonel L. W. Andrew, V. officer commanding the Twentysecond Wellington Battalion, who took part in the lighting in Greece, is safe and well, according to a cable received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Andrew. Wanganui East. They have two other sons in the forces. Warrant-Officer R. Andrew, who is in Trent ham, and Captain J. M. Andrew, who is in the Territorials in Wellington.

Messrs. R. Cargill and Maurice Mepham, who have been members of Christ Church choir, were honoured after an evening service recently. The Rev. W. G. Bird, members of the congregation and vestry were also present. The organist and choirmaster, Mr. F. Wentworth Slater, made presentations to the two young men, and wished them good luck. Mr. Cargill is in the Air Force and Mr. Maurice Mepham the Fleet Air Arm.
