TOO REMOTE TO LIVE IN SECURITY
.AUSTRALIA’S DANGER MUST BE WIDE AWAKE, OR PERISH NEW YORK, Feb. 24. The New York Post, in a leader to-day, says Australia is too remote and with too small a population to dream of unmolested security. "Australia, from necessity, has to be wide awake and realistic or Australia will perish. That, we believe, is the secret of the miracle of Australian strength and of her fight. “The United States can afford the luxury—or thought it could—of a strong political group trying in sistently to restrict its military outlook within its own borders to recognise no war or menacing situation till that war pushes open our door and walks in, an unwelcome, but invited guest. That is the difference. "Australia knows it must face danger far away, or there can be no safety within its own walls. There has been a special thrill in the stories of the Australian effort in this war.”
