WEATHER FORECAST

Meteorological Office, Wellington, Wednesday, February’ 11, 4 p.m. General Situation.—A trough of low pressure extends from the central Tasman Sea across New Zealand to the south-east. An anticyclone covers southern Australia and the western Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Winds: Fresh to strong north-westerlies at first over the North Island, and moderate south-westerlies over the South Island, but south-westerlies gradually freshening and extending over most of the North Island by Friday morning. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough on West Coast and in Cook Strait. Elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising south of Akaroa. Eastern Tasman Sea: Fresh to strong north-westerlies in the northern and central portions, and southerlies in the southern portion, with strong south-westerlies gradually becoming general during the next 36 hours; seas rough. Weather: Becoming changeable and showery over the South Island with an improvement soon in Westland, Canterbury and parts of Otago. Elsewhere cloudy to overcast, with scattered rain in western districts and rain gradually becoming general. Temperatures mild at first in the North Island; otherwise becoming cool.
