CHINA TO BUY 100 AEROPLANES

500 WERE WANTED FROM U.S. AIRCRAFT PRODUCTION IS IN TOP GEAR WASHINGTON, Feb. 6. The United States Secretary for the Navy, Colonel Frank Knox, has announced that China has arranged to purchase 100 aeroplanes in the United States. China sought 500. Colonel Knox said that Greece, seeking to obtain priority for aeroplanes ordered in the United States by Britain, was offered 30 Grumman navy machines, which were not accepted because Greece wanted a new and different type of aeroplane. The Greek Legation denied that Colonel Knox’s plane offer was refused and said that it was still awaiting instructions from Greece. A letter received by the Royal Australian Air Force Public Relations Director in Sydney from an Australian expert who examined aircraft production plants in western America, said: "Aircraft production in the United States is in top gear and as far as I could see there were lines of big modern warplanes covering acres. Some assembly areas are so vast that executives need motor scooters to move from point to point.”
