SUCCESSFUL YEAR
WANGANUI MALE CHOIR ACTIVITIES REVIEWED “The choir’s activities during the 1940 season were most energetic, particularly toward the latter part oi the year, states the annual report of the tvanganui Male Choir, to be piesenteo at the annual meeting in the Savage Club Hall on Tuesday evening. During the year two subscribers concerts were given, the first in July and the seconu in November, the report adds. Berore the first concert oegan, the choir sang “Lead Kindiy Light, ’ as a tribute to the memory ot the late Mr. J. C. Richardson, who was an original member of the choii. "The choir is indebted to Mr. F. Wentworth Slater for the great amount of work he aid in supply music for our use,” states the report. A pleasing feature of the first concert was the rendering by the choir of "Land of the Fern,' composed by Mr. Stanley Brown. By request it was repeated at the November concert. The choir’s final appearance ot the year was at the Wanganui Collegiate School, when the students were entertained.
Gifts of music to the choir library were made by the following members: Messrs. F. Wentworth Slater, S. Brown, E. Grant, W. E. Smith, A. E. Chesswas, and G P. Williamson. A music stand was presented to the choir by Mr. A. E. Chesswas. Gold lyres for 10 years’ service were presented to Mrs. Freda Cunningham (pianist), Mr. F. Wentworth Slater (conductor), and Messrs. G. P. Williamson, F. Emmett, W. H. Bird, S. Kendall and W. Goddard. A similar presentation will be made to Mr. J. Drake at the annual meeting.
