Good Lettuces Dumped. A few weeks ago good eating apples were dumped in the Liardet Street tip, Wellington, by the Internal Marketing Department. One day last week btween 30 and 40 cases of lettuces were dumped in the same tip. A carrier who was depositing rubbish at the tip saw the lettuces being dumped by a truck driver acting on behalf of a private marketing organisation. The carrier retrieved some of the lettuces, which were sound in every way and were of a grade now fetching 3d and 4d in Wellington shops. “It is a scandal that good vegetables should be wasted merely to keep up the price, which is too high at this time of year, anyway,” he said.
