WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
RANGATAUA MEETING A large number of members of the Rangataua Women’s Institute assembled in the local hall to celebrate the second birthday of the institute. Mrs. Slater (president) presided and welcomed all present. The hall was decorated for the occasion with daffodils and other spring flowers. Mrs. Bak. vice-president, assisted by Mesdames Dillon and Taylor, received the guests. Floral sprays were presented to the visiting presidents from institutes in surrounding districts. An enjoyable programme included a solo by Mrs. Murdie, a reading by Mrs. Frazer, and community singing. Two playettes given by members caused much merriment and several competitions were entered into with enthusiasm. Mesdames Mitchell, Mills and Stretton provided the music. The winners of the competitions were Mesdames Hardy, Lane, and Powell, of Ohakune, and Ellerby, Rangataua. The lovely birthday cake was made by Mrs. Ellis, the institute’s oldest member, who Jit the candles, Miss Frazer, the youngest member, blowing them out. An enjoyable afternoon tea was served, followed by the singing of the institute hymn. Some beautiful work was displayed by members.
