TAIHAPE NEWS

MOUNTED RULES CAMP AT WANGANUI "The Taihape boys are all flourishing down here and settling down to the life,” writes a Taihape n.c.o. at the Mounted Rifles camp at Wanganui. “It's a pretty intensive course and the instructors tell us we are getting in two weeks what usually takes five at Trentham," continues the letter, which adds that the boys are getting into the way of things, and, as far as they can tell, are picking up the training well. “We are kept going hard ail day and have lectures sometimes at night. We are supposed to keep notes and swot them up, too, but we don't have much time for the latter. We arrived in the rain and the place did not seem too good, but spirits have been rising steadily. There are six in my tent—all Taihape boys and good company. There are no frills on the tucker served to the corporals, but it is good plain food and we are always ready for it. There is evening leave occasionally and the lads go to a pub for a bath.” LEASE OF BOROUGH SECTIONS Tenders are invited for the lease for one year of two borough sections in the Main South Road. One section contains approximately four acres and is already ploughed and drained. It was plantea in potatoes some months ago and the crop has been sold. The other section contains about 41 acres of grazing land. Tenders close on September 6. Conditions may be obtained at the Borough Council office. Particulars are advertised.
