PLANES FOR BRITAIN

A M ERICAN COUNTER-OFFER. Received Aug. 14, 6.5 p.m. WASHINGTON, Aug. 13. Mr. Purvis, chief British purchasing commissioner, said the United States had offered to sell to Britain 1300 to 1400 planes monthly, beginning late in 1941. Mr. Purvis said the offer made was in the nature of a counteroffer to the British moves to obtain 3000 planes monthly. “We are considering carefully all data and are endeavouring to work out a project,” he added. “The offer was made after consideration of America’s own defence needs.”
