LADIES’ GOLF (Own Correspondent). WAVERLEY, Aug. 14. On Tuesday the tinal round for Mr. A. A. Thompson's trophy was played and this proved one of the most interesting competitions of the season. The final round finished with only one stroke between the first four players. The best two out of three medal rounds counted for this competition and Miss Mathieson proved the winner. Results were:—Miss Mathieson, 74—78—152; Mrs. K. Handley, 74—79 —153; Mrs. I. D. Parsons, 74—80—154; Miss Aiken, 76—79—155. There is also very little difference between the players for the season’s points prize to date, the results of which are: Miss T. Aiken 23, Mrs. Parsons 19, Miss Mathieson 19, Mrs. K. Handley 17, Mrs. Rivers 10, Mrs. E. C. Dallison 9, Mrs. K. Honeyfield 9, Mrs. R. Bates 8, Mrs. Brown 6. In the semi-final of the Wicks Cup Mrs. Parsons and Miss Aiken had a very interesting match and were all square at the 18th, and had to play on to the 24th. hole, where Mrs. Parsons proved the winner, 1 up. Mrs. Parsons will play Mrs. Honeyfield in the final of this cup. The following is the draw for the L.G.U. medal round, to be played on Tuesday, August 20: Mrs. I. D. Parsons v. A Slableford bogey match was played by the men on Saturday, and although conditions were not of the best some very good scores were returned. Results were: F. Train, 20—14—34; B. How, 295 —34; H. Cowdell, 14 —14 —34; M. Dallison, 24—10—34; N. Bromiley, 25 —8 —33; W. Gaitt, 20—13 —33; G. Mclntyre, 10—23—33; K. Gibbons, 21—11—32; I. Parsons, 28—3— 31; C. Rivers, 19—10—29. A bogey match was held by the men recently, and was won by B. How, 6 up. During this competition Mr. How equalled the record of the Waverley course, which is 74. Other results were: J. Walkinton, 1 up; K. Gibbons, 2 down; Burgess, 2 down. In the first round of the intermediate championship, M. Dallison lost to J. Walkinton. PRIMARY SCHOOL RUGBY

On Saturday the Patea representatives were successful in defeating Hawera primary schools by 17 points to six on the local domain. The match was played on a wet ground and light rain fell throughout the game. Patea’s strength lay principally in the forwards, of whom Marriner, Wiha, Metcalfe, Karipa and Newland showed themselves to be good tight forwards. Hawera were not so compact in the scrums and hence saw less of the ball. The best of the Patea backs were Sturmey, Lewis and Anderson. For Patea tries were scored by Anderson (two), Vincent, Millan and Marriner, one each, and Karipa converted one.
