WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB

MEETING AT AWAPUNI NOMINATIONS DUE MONDAY Nominations for the Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting are due to close at 8 p.m. next Monday, and the indications are that there will be a generous response from owners and trainers. At the same time there will be a forfeit of fl to be declared in connection with the Wanganui Guineas, which carries a stake of £350, together with a sweepstake of £5 each for starters. The principal events on the programme are the Marangai Handicap (£250) and the Higgie Handicap (£200), the former being over ten furlongs and the latter over nine. The two open sprints are worth £175. For the two-year-olds there is the Debutant Stakes, run over four furlongs, and on the opening day there will be a two-year-old parade at 11 a.m. The Gentlemen Riders’ Handicap is a firstday event for amateur riders and is run over a mile and a-quarter.
