RAETIHI BOWLING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING (Own Correspondent.) RAETIHI, Aug. 13. The annual meeting of the-Raetihi Bowling Club was held at the Druids’ Hall on Friday evening. Mr. A. i. Urwin presided over a good attendance of members. The president read the annual report, which disclosed a very satisfactory state of affairs. The membership had increased from 37 active and 18 honorary to 42 active and 17 honorary. In finance the club had increased its assets by £l4 9s 7d and had at the same time reduced a liability of £ll7 8s 2d to one of £49 10s. The club was indebted to a number of its members who, at the beginning of the season, took up debentures to the value of £llO. The line condition of the green was due to the painstaking efforts of the gieen superintendent (Mr. D. P. Scarfe) and his assistant (Mr. Dean Eves), stated Mr. Urwin.

The following new members were elected: Messrs. J. Wilkie. Rev. M. Underhill, W. Evans, W. McVeigh, N. Mosen. A. G. Urwin.

The following were elected honor arv members: Messrs. A. G. Bell, F Beer.

Mr. A. T. May was accorded the honour of being elected a life member in view of his long association with the club.

The following officials were elected to office for the forthcoming season; Patron, Mr. B. A. Drury; president, Mr. A. E. Urwin (re-elected); vicepresident. Mr. W. Watson; hon. secretary, Mr. P. Stewart; committee Messrs. F. Soar, A. Head, D. Eyes, P. Powell. C. D. Lynch; official umpires, D. P. Scarfe and A. E. Willoughby; green superintendent, Mr. D. P. Scarfe; sole selector, Mr. C. D. Lynch; delegates to sub-centre, Messrs. C. D. Lvnch, A. E. Urwin, F. Soar; hon. auditor, Mr. A. Mabbott; Press steward, Mr. G. Burgess. Mr. J. Aird was accorded a vote of thanks for acting as secretary for the last two seasons. Pressure of work forced him to relinquish the position. The meeting discussed at length the matter of inter-club games and the final decision was to instruct the delegates to support a reversion to the old order of things, viz., that the competitions for the Rangitikei Shield, the Taumarunui Shield, and the Junior Banner be re-established.

In the sub-centre championships it was announced that the following

were the winners: Curtis Cup, Ta'hape; Walsh Cup, Ohakune; Avon Cup, Ohakune; Webb Bowl, Taumarunnl.

At the conclusion of formal business a social hour was spent and during the proceedings last season’s competition winners were presented with [their trophies.
