THE WENDY HUT

Our Children’s Corner.

My Dear Children, — Now. to-day I musn't take up too much space with a story, as is my usual practice each Letterland Day, because there are quite a number of letters for which there must be room. Of recent weeks many of our Old Brigade have been popping in with news of how they fare after long silences and to me this is a great delight. It is really wonderful, you know, to leave all the cares of these days of strife behind, as it were, and enter our happy Land of Make-believe for a time. Who remembers “Golden Glimmer”? Her pen-name has not been seen in our columns for a long, long time, but to-day she pays a surprise call and wonders, after having been out of touch with Hut affairs, why we occupy such a small corner. Looking back over the years and considering the large space which was once our portion we may count ourselves for'.unate to have as much as two columns instead of two pages! The need for the conservation of paper has been the reason and since most of our old Ites and friends —who found so much to interest them in those more fortunate days —recognised the prior claim of the more youthful members to whatever space was available they rarely put pen to paper m contribution to our Hut. However, I do want to pay a tribute to heir loyalty and I want each to know that I am as deeply interested in their progress and welfare to-day as in former times. I know that grave concern fills their hearts as our Empire fights for existence against the fear of Nazi aggression but I can tell them there can only be one result. We WILL win and the unclean thing which seeks to triumph by force and might over a right and just cause will never be. Let your closing thought for the day be one strengthening the hand of those who strive in that cause. Now, dears, I am in danger of doing just that which I had resolved not to do. I must get all our mail in this issue, so until next Letterland Day I send a special thought for all who may be in Sick Bay, together with my fondest love and kisses to everyone. Your ever affectionate, WENDY
