FAT SHEEP PRICES FIRM FREE SALE FOR STORE SHEEP There was an average yarding of fat sheep at yesterday’s stock sale at Wanganui, conducted by Freeman R. Jackson and Co.. Ltd. Prices for fat sheep were fully firm. There was a free sale for store sheep, there being a light entry. A heavy entry of fat cattle came forward and prices were easier by about 10s a head, compared with prices obtained last week. Oddments and store cows sold at late rates. A good sale resulted for yearling Jersey heifers. Good dairy cows and heifers, to calving, sold well, but backward heifers and aged cows were neglected. A light entry of pigs came forward and all classes sold well. Distributing Co., Ltd., report a very successful special sale of dairy cows and heifers on Monday last. There was a splendid attendance of outside buyers. Several local herds were disposed of and thees elicited keen competition. We can report practically a total clearance as follows: — Account Mr. Norman Walker: Best cows, early calvers, £ll 15s to £l3 15s; others £8 10s to £ll ss. Account H. Goebel, his whole herd realised from £lO 15s to £l3 10s. Account H. Shackleton in conjunction with the Loan Co., best dairy heifers close to profit £9 12s to £lO 10s; others £8 15s to £9; later calvers £6 17s to £7 17s 6d. Slightly larger entries and the maintenance of good quality led to a sound sale for all classes ot fat stock at Addington to-day. Fat sheep showed another improvement, wlple the cattle market was also a shade firmer. There was a steadying in store sheep values. Fat Sheep. —An entry of 4000 and keen buying in anticipation ot holiday needs for “National’’ week. An improvement of about 2s a head. Prime heavy weathers sold at 42s to 46s with tops 48s to 55s lOd, prime medium weights 37s 6d to 41s, ordinary 31s to 365; best ewes 40s to 49s lOd, prime heavy 34s to 37s and good medium 28s 6d to 335. Store Sheep.—The entry was nearly double that of last week, comprising about 1600 head. The bulk were good ewes, but the increased supply caused an easing of about 2s a head. Fat Cattle.—There was again good quality and a firm sale for a yarding of 500. Best beef made 46s to 48s per 1001 b, best to 50s, medium 43s and inferior from 37s 6d downwards. with tops at £23 7s 6d, medium weights £l4 to £l5 15s; best heifers £lB with other good lines from £ll to £l3; prime cows made to £lO 15s, with extra good pens at £l5 17s 6d. Ordinary sorts sold at £6 15s to £B' 10s. Pigs.—Porkers were again in short supply and there was a further firming. Choppers also met a keen sale.
