. “DISPUTED PASSAGE” “Disputed Passage,” concluding today ac the Majestic Theatre, is a brilliant screen adaptation of Lloyd C. Douglas’ famous novel. Akim Tamiroff is admirably cast as the embittered scientist Dr. Forster, and he gives a performance equal to his best. The part of the young doctor is well taken by John Howard, who infuses into it a sincerity well in keeping with the role. As the Chinese-American girl Lan-Ying, Dorothy Laniour is both surprising and impressive as a dramatic actress of considerable intensity. “Judge Hardy and Son.” "Judge Hardy and Son” brings Lewis Stone, Mickey Rooney and the rest of the entertaining Hardy Family to the Majestic Theatre to-morrow in the eighth all-new adventures of the famous family. In the new story Mickey Rooney turns detective to help his father light a foreclosure case; gets involved with pretty girls with consequent trouble with his Regular” sweetheart. Ami Rutherford Andy turns hero to ferry Cecilia Parker across a raging flood to reach her sick mother's bedside; and inspires his father to new courage in an hour of tragedy. The new picture is laid entirely in the tamily's home town of Carvel. There are poignant moments when the family fears the loss of the mother through illness. There are hilarious complications ini Andy Hardy’s life, and several tense dramatic moments in the life of the family. Lewis Stone as the Judge and I father, Mickey as Andy Hardy, Cecilal Parker as his sister, Fay Holden as the mother and Sara Haden as the] aunt, with Ann Rutherford as Polly j Benedict, Mickey’s high school sweet-' heart, comprise the "regular” cast of the series. An excellent selection of short films includes "Spots Before the Eyes,” a Pete Smith specialty of more than usual appeal.
